Carrying and using his M16 to defend himself and his fellow Marines in Iraq made it clear to Ruben that weapons of war have no place in civilian life.

It is unconscionable that our nation has allowed the epidemic of gun violence to exist for this long. Kids should be practicing their math and spelling, not practicing hiding under their desks and teachers should be making lesson plans, not active shooter plans. Ruben refuses to accept that this is the best we can do for our kids and our country.

As a gun owner himself, Ruben is all for responsible gun ownership. But, it needs to be just that – responsible. The vast majority of Arizonans agree we need common sense gun reform to keep our communities safe, and Ruben is fully committed to getting it done in the U.S. Senate.

Ruben has actively cosponsored pivotal legislation, backing initiatives such as the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, Assault Weapons Ban, and Ethan’s Law, and offering support to the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Passing The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was an important first step after years of inaction, but more work remains to be done to end the epidemic of gun violence in America, keep weapons of war off our streets, and ensure that Arizona communities are safe.
