Rep. Ruben Gallego is urging Gov. Doug Ducey to use federal COVID-19 relief funds to help offset gas costs for everyday Arizonans.
In a letter, Gallego, D-Ariz., said he hopes that Ducey will use funds from a specific section of the American Rescue Plan Act to provide some financial relief for Arizonans. The financial relief could manifest in a variety of ways including gas rebates, he wrote.
Gallego’s letter suggests that if these funds are used, they should be allocated to help “especially low and moderate-income families that have endured disproportionate economic harm due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The funds would come from the law’s Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Funds. Arizona already has received $2.1 billion from the allotted $4.2 billion total and is expected to receive the remaining $2.1 billion in 2022.
