Disabled veterans are currently allowed to have their federal student loan debt forgiven — but if that debt is in excess of $600, they could owe the IRS thousands of dollars.
Ruben Gallego just introduced a bill to fix this.
The VETS Act would exclude discharged federal loans from gross income when a veteran is totally and permanently disabled, or deceased. In certain circumstances, the VETS Act would also exclude parents who took out student loans on behalf of a deceased member of the Armed Forces.
This is an important issue for thousands of veterans and their families, and Ruben needs your help.

As a member of the Arizona legislature, Ruben introduced a bill to legalize marijuana. Now as a member of Congress, Ruben still stands in support of legalizing marijuana.
Ruben believes that marijuana should be regulated and taxed just like alcohol — and that it doesn’t make any sense for our government to spend money locking up people for possessing small amounts of marijuana for recreational use.
If you support marijuana legalization, sign your name to stand with Ruben.

You can read Ruben’s thoughts here. But what do you think? Should Jeb Bush drop Paul Wolfowitz — the chief architect of the Iraq War — from his team of advisors?
An ultra-conservative judge in Texas may be trying to block President Obama’s executive action on immigration reform, but Ruben Gallego is going to fight tooth and nail to make sure the President’s executive action is held up.
Ruben won’t stand for these political attacks on our community, will you?
